Project Summer
I’m tired of telling my students: “It doesn’t rain inside the gym, it doesn’t get cold, and thank God, there’s always water”. You can’t say that it’s too cold to work out, because health clubs offer a wide variety of physical activities for all times of the year (and also many discounts so they don’t lose clients).
If you stop working out in the winter it’s because you still don’t know (or pretend you don’t know” the importance of physical activity in your life. But, ok, everyone has their own problems and desires, for this reason I will offer some tips to shake your laziness, get you out of that chair and anticipate your summer project.
• Take your gym clothes to work in a knapsack. Having to go home often makes you too lazy to go out later;
• Arrange to go to the club with a friend, that way you encourage each other and think twice before not working out;
• Ask your instructor to adapt your routine to exercises that keep your body temperature raised, such as circuits, super-series or bi-sets. Exercises in sequence leave you warmer;
• If you are too tired one day to do a full training routine, go to the gym anyway and do a short workout. Remember, a little exercise is better than nothing;
• Set a regular time to go to the gym, this avoids excuses like the famous “I’ll go later”. To maintain better discipline, look for a personal trainer, at least during the winter;
• Warming up and stretching are even more important at this time of year, because the muscles, tendons and ligaments need more time to get warm. Begin your work out with aerobic exercises, like the bicycle and treadmill;
• Replacing liquids is very important. Keep hydrated by drinking water during all your physical activity and not only when you feel thirsty;
• Try not to use too many heavy clothes, but do keep them on them in the first part of the workout. At the beginning of the series of exercises your body will begin to warm up and you can gradually remove the layers. If you are outside, use high collars, caps and gloves;
• Put your warm clothes on after you work out. Many people get sick because they leave the gym with their body warm and enter in contact with cold air in the street;
• Winter is one of the best times of year to build muscle mass. This is because in the cold we eat better and more. Thus, a healthy diet and intense training are ideal in this period;
• Winter is a great time to begin physical activity, because due to the cold, our body burns more energy to stay warm. This greater effort causes us to burn even more calories when we work out.
