The perfect shave

The perfect shave

Much more than a question of appearance, having a good shave is a symbol of cleanliness. Some men may find shaving appalling, and proper care is necessary, because the constant use of razor blades can harm the skin. Beards on adult men grow an average of one centimeter per month.

Sensitive skin suffers from the effects of shaving, which can create red boils that are painful and can allow the entrance of bacteria and fungi, which can lead to infection. For this reason, you must be careful when shaving. It is important to use the correct products, which can include creams, gels, or mousses. These products have ingredients to moisturize the skin, soften the hairs and facilitate passage of the blade.

The product chosen should be spread over all of the skin to be shaved while massaging it with circular movements that help to raise the hairs. After-shave lotions are also essential because they re-establish the natural hydration of the skin and protect against external aggressions. In addition, they leave a sense of cleanliness and freshness. After-shave gel is ideal for oily skin, because it reduces irritations and redness commonly caused by shaving, in addition to inhibiting the formation of free radicals responsible for skin aging.

It is important to accompany the direction of growth of hairs to prevent ingrown hairs. From the sideburns to the jaw, the hair grows downwards, and from the jaw to the neck, the growth is upwards. The neck is an especially sensitive region and care is needed to not pass the razor in the direction against the hair growth. For men with hair loss, it is recommended that they merely wash the face without shaving to have a more natural look. To lower a thick beard, an electric trimmer is recommended, which allows excellent definition. A well designed beard demands a touch-up every other day. Black men often have curly hairs that can penetrate the skin as they grow, causing inflammation approximately three days after shaving.

Important shaving tips:
- The best moment to shave is soon after a shower, when your face is still moist and the skin soft, or at night, when the face is naturally oilier and the skin more relaxed. During a shower can also be a good time;
- Use new blades that cut hair well and cause less irritation;
- If your skin is very sensitive, avoid using sun-block or tanning creams soon after shaving. Be careful when swimming in a pool: chlorine and salt can also irritate recently shaved skin;
- If your beard is rough, place a warm towel on your face for 30 seconds. The softer the skin, the better the blade will pass over your face;
- Begin to shave along the cheeks, where the skin is more sensitive. Pass the blade in the direction that the hairs grow and leave the chin for last, where the bristles take longer to moisten;
- Change your blade after three or four shaves. Worn blades can cause cuts, scratches and burn the skin, especially sensitive skin;
- Skin with acne requires special care, because pimples should not be cut, which would spread bacteria present in the acne;
- After shaving, rinse with cold water to close the pours and refresh the skin.
