Going after extra information on the person you´re interested in on the social networks has become pretty normal nowadays. Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and many others made it possible for us to get to know people better. We can research someone´s lifestyle, check the friends we have in common, the pages the person likes, among other kinds of information that might come in handy when you need a few hints.

Let´s play fair: social networks not only help us with information, they are also great when it comes to getting in touch with friends and even helping you out at work. Of course we should use them carefully and in a controlled manner – what sometimes may become a hard thing to do! Virtual world can be quite nasty when it comes to addiction.  You want to keep up-to-date, want to check the latest news, are dying to see the photos from the weekend, are waiting for that chick to change her status to ´single´ and so on... Hard to keep off!

Oh well... Facebook is our favorite! (at least until Google+ came up). First we could only join in if we had an invitation and now it has got the majority of us hooked. Big companies started using their pages on FB instead of their institutional web page and the decision has created a new trend. In it, it is possible to involve your target and ask for their comments and suggestions. People love participating and many companies are now happier with their return and their increase in sales and publicity.

Twitter is quite radical: you either love it or hate it. Many people say it is impossible to relate to other people making use of as little as 140 characters. Many companies are into  this social network now (including Bella Club!) - what sometimes can become a problem to the ones who cannot separate professional life from personal life. Talking about your boss on your Twitter account might not be a good idea; and inviting your friends to a small get-together might be tricky if you can´t control it.

Some users also tweet every single detail of their routine – which can be really boring to those who have joined Twitter in order to keep posted about world news or matters of interest. I mean... what do I have to do with your latest meal or your complaints about your neighbour´s dogs who won´t stop barking? Well, that´s the thin line there. Some people love it, some people cannot stand it.

Anyway, many of you are in the social networks and are well aware that people tend to develop different characters in the virtual world. Some of us are quite real virtually. But there is a tendency of posting pictures and videos that show how happy we are, how many ´friends´ you have and your level of popularity – we rarely (maybe never) post pictures in which we´re crying or ugly, after all. It´s all about the way you look – and we know our lives aren´t only parties, music and travels.

What I am defending here is: stop being who you´re not (if, by any chance, you´re one of these people who pretend to be perfect to others). No one´s perfect and we all have problems. Our face isn´t pretty every day, our hair is sometimes awful, we sometimes drink one too many and we don´t need that expensive car to be nice people.

So c´mon! Be yourself. I am not telling you to start complaining and posting sad pictures of you on your accounts. But be yourself. Don´t try to become a person you´re not. Virtual life is fun, but it doesn´t last long. You´ll need real friends eventually. You´ll want to kiss someone and have sex and hang out and have a drink. And that will all be much more interesting if you stop pretending to be a person you´re not – and I gotta say this: it is much easier to remember the truth!

Thing is... you´ll always cause a positive surprise if you don´t hide your true self on the net.
